Jack Draper and Andreeva Made History at BNP Paribas Open
Jack Draper was crowned the winner of the BNP Paribas Open 2025 following his win over Holger Rune. The 23-year-old won his first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of his career. In the women’s event, 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva defeated world no. 1, Aryna Sabalenka. This was her second WTA 1000 tournament win.
Jack Draper: One-sided men’s final
Jack Draper, Holger Rune, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev were the four semi-finalists at the Indian Wells. Out of the four players, Carlos & Daniil had already played in the finals of this tournament. In fact, these two played the last two finals and Alcaraz won in both matches. This time it was looking like a third consecutive final between these two.

Carlos Alcaraz faced Jack Draper in the first semi-final. Draper made a strong start by winning the first set 6-1. Alcaraz outclassed his opponent in the second set by winning it 6-0. The last set was won 6-4 by Draper. Both players broke four times each in the game but Draper was the better player. Holger Rune defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. He took the first set 7-5 and the second set 6-4.
The final was one-sided and Draper won in easy fashion. He won both sets 6-2 and went on to lift his first major title. Draper broke four-times in the match and didn’t give any chance for his opponent to break. His points win rate on the first serve was the biggest reason behind this win.
Holger Rune was playing in his fourth ATP Masters 1000 tournament final and the first one since 2023. He won the first one against Novak Djokovic but has lost the other three. The 21-year-old has a lot to learn about and will be eyeing for better results in the future.
Andreeva completes big comeback
Mirra Andreeva is one of the rising stars in women’s tennis. She got into the limelight by making it to the semi-finals of the French Open last year. The youngster had a good start to 2025. She won her first WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai. This was her second final at the WTA 1000 tournament.

The youngster lost the first set 6-2 against the three-time Grand Slam winner. Mirra kept her nerves and took the second set 6-4. She then took the momentum into the third set. Mirra wrapped up the match with a 6-3 win in the final set.
Andreeva Stuns Sabalenka to Claim Second WTA 1000 Title
Andreeva broke four times in the match and allowed Sabalenka to win three break points. The youngster was more effective on the first serve against a more powerful opponent. This was a career-defining win against an opponent sitting at the top of the pile in the women’s division.
Mirra had already knocked out the 2023 and 2024 champions. She eliminated Rybakina in the round of 16. The youngster got the better of Iga Swiatek in the semi-final. This tournament win will boost her confidence. She will look to carry this momentum into Grand Slams and try to add more titles to her young career.
