Jakub Mensik Makes History With Miami Open Triumph Over Djokovic
Jakub Mensik won his first ATP Masters 1000 tournament in style. The Czechia player defeated 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in straight sets at the Miami Open 2025 final. It was a career-defining win for the teenager against the most successful tennis player on the planet. Novak lost the opportunity to bag his 100th tour-level title.
Tight first set
Jakub Mensik knew that he had to play his best tennis to get past Novak in the finals. The youngster was dominant on his serve. He delivered seven aces in the first set and Novak managed four aces. Djokovic had a better first serve but had a 73% success rate in winning points. Mensik, on the other hand, delivered 2/3rd of his first serve but had an 84% success rate in taking points from his serve.
Both players managed to break each other in the set. Djokovic forced the youngster to make 12 unforced errors. The set went into a tiebreaker. Mensik won the breaker 7-4 and took the first set.

Jakub Mensik: Another tie breaker success
The youngster took the lead into the second set. Mensik knew that he had the opportunity to seal the deal against an opponent almost twice his age. His service game played a huge role in changing the scenario of the match. Once again, Mensik delivered seven aces in the set. His first serve percentage and points success rate dropped down a bit.

However, the teenager managed to win points on his second serve. Novak struggled to take points in his second serve. Both players failed to break each other’s serve in the set. Novak managed to serve two breakpoints. He struggled a bit in this set and made 16 unforced errors. This set also went into a tie breaker that Mensik won 7-4. He took both sets in a tiebreaker.
What did Djokovic have to say?
Following his defeat in the final, Novak said some kind words to his opponent. He said, “Congratulations to Mensik and his team. Never happy to lose, but he’s one of the very few players that I would be happier to lose to, to be honest. The Serb added, “I have seen him play when he was 15 or 16 and invited him, we had some training blocks together. He was training at my club in Belgrade, and to see his development and evolution is great, amazing.”
Sabalenka eases past Jessica Pegula in women’s final
Aryna Sabalenka is one of the best women’s tennis players of this generation. She met Jessica Pegula in the women’s final. The Australian Open runner-up took just two sets to lift the trophy. She won the first set 7-5 and eased past her opponent with a 6-2 win in the second set. Sabalenka converted seven of her 16 breakpoints and allowed her opponent to take only four breaks from her 11 breakpoints. This was her first trophy in Miami.
