Novak Djokovic In the Final After a Long Time
Novak Djokovic hunt for a 25th Grand Slam continues as the Serbian sensation reaches the final of the Wimbledon 2024. The 27-year-old has made it to back-to-back finals following his win over Italian competitor, Lorenzo Musetti. Djokovic won the match in three straight sets. This was the seventh meeting between these two competitors. The Serb led 5-1, with his only defeat coming in Monte-Carlo.
Lorenzo Musetti was on a dream run in the third Grand Slam of the season. The 22-year-old had never made it past the fourth round of a major before this tournament. He overcame Taylor Fritz’s challenge in a five-set match in the quarters. He was carrying the hope of Italians following Jannik Sinners’ exit in the last round.

Novak Djokovic Perfectly started
Djokovic failed to reach the final of the two Grand Slams played earlier this year. He lost in the semis of the Australian Open and withdrew from the French Open quarters due to a knee injury. Novak has worn a kneecap throughout the Wimbledon 2024 campaign. The Serb received a Walk Over in the last round following Alex De Minaur’s withdrawal. He was much fresher than Musetti heading into this round.

He took the first set in style. The 37-year-old defeated his opponent 6-4. Novak broke twice but also allowed his opponent to take one break in the match. Djokovic showed his class and was confident against an opponent 15 years younger than him.

Musetti eyeing a comeback
The first-time Grand Slam semi-finalist wasn’t giving up so easily. He was eyeing an upset against the former World No. 1. Lorenzo Musetti tried his best in the second set. Novak managed to break once but Musetti also broke once in the set. The set went into a tiebreaker after both players held their serves. Despite all the hard work, Musetti failed to save the set. Djokovic won the tiebreaker 7-2 to take a two-set lead.
Lorenzo Musetti had the last chance to get in the game. However, Novak had some other plans. He was looking to end the match early. The Serb once again took a break and never looked back. He grabbed the third set 6-4 and advanced to his 37th Grand Slam final.

Hunt for 8th Wimbledon
The Serbian player advanced to his 10th Wimbledon final. He has a 7-2 record in the finals of this championship. The 37-year-old will meet Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz in the finals. This will be a repeat of the 2023 Wimbledon that Alcaraz won in five sets. It won’t be easy for Novak against a much younger and energetic opponent. However, the experience counts in big matches and Novak knows how to trouble his opponents.

A win for Novak will take him level on Wimbledon titles with Roger Federer. Currently, Djokovic is tied with Pete Sampras on seven titles in the Open Era. A win for Novak will take him to 25 titles, three clear of Rafael Nadal and five clear of Roger.
