Sinner, Djokovic pass first round test in Australian Open 2025
Sinner and Novak Djokovic headline the Australian Open 2025, kicking off the year’s first Grand Slam in Melbourne. Sinner aims to defend his crown against tennis’s biggest names, including the ever-dominant Djokovic. The first round has begun, and so far, no upsets have occurred.

Alexander Zverev beats French opponent
Zverev was in action against Lucas Pouille in the first round. The German eased past his French opponent with a three-set win. Zverev won 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4 and delivered 18 aces on the court. Alexander was a bit careless in converting his break points. He only converted three out of the 18 break points earned.
Sumit Nagal faces early heart-break
Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal was up against Tomas Mahac in the first round. Mahac is seeded 26th and he eased passed Nagal with a 6-3, 6-1, and 7-5 win. Nagal broke twice but was not a match to his opponent, who converted seven break points.
Casper Ruud advances after five sets of thriller
Sixth seed Casper Ruud had a tough night against Jaume Munar. Ruud won the first set 6-3 and then lost the second set 6-1. He made a comeback in the third set with a 7-5 win. Munar was not giving up and won the fourth set 6-2. Ruud had a bit of energy left and he took advantage of it. He won the last set 6-1.

Nick Kyrgios’ early exit
One of the home favorites, Nick Kyrgios had to face an early exit in the Australian Open. He was up against Jacob Fearnley. The 23-year-old British player won in three straight sets by a score of 7-6, 6-3 and 7-6.
Carlos Alcaraz advances
Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz was up against Alexander Shevchenko of Ukraine. Alcaraz is one of the favorites to win the tournament. He earned an easy three-set win in the first round. Alcaraz took the first set 6-1, then took the second 7-5 and won the last 6-1. He broke eight times in the match.

Novak Djokovic makes a comeback
10-time Australian Open winner was up against Nishesh Basavareddy of the United States. The youngster was making his Grand Slam debut and he did it in style. Basavareddy won the first set 6-4. However, Novak was not going down that easily. He won the next three sets 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2. Djokovic escaped a shocking result and will be hungry to add his 11th Australian Open and 25th Grand Slam.

Stefanos Tsitsipas shocking early exit
Stefanos Tsitsipas was the biggest upset in the first round. He lost to Alex Michelsen of the USA in four sets. Michelsen won the first two sets. Tsitsipas tried to make a comeback and won the third set. Michelsen was the better player on the night and he registered a comfortable win in the fourth set

Sinner passes Jarry’s test
World No.1, Jannik Sinner won his match in three straight sets against Nicolas Jarry. The first two sets went into a tiebreaker. Sinner wrapped up the match with a 6-1 win in the third set.
