The Madrid Open: New Battles, Big Stakes In Men’s And Women’s Finals
The Madrid Open 2025 has reached the final stage of the competition. We finally have our four finalists for the men’s and women’s championships. Norwegian tennis star, Casper Ruud, was the first player to book his entry in the final. He was joined by 23-year-old talent, Jack Draper. This will be their first meeting on the court.
In the women’s championship, Aryna Sabalenka is eyeing her third crown against Coco Gauff. Here is how these four finalists made it to the last stage.
Ruud cruises past big names
Casper Ruud had a tough path to the Madrid Open 2025 final. He met a couple of players ranked better than him in the previous rounds. The 26-year-old showed his class against tough opponents and is yet to drop a set in this competition.

After success in the first two rounds, Ruud faced third seed Taylor Fritz in the last 16. Ruud broke thrice in the match and won it comfortably 7-5, 6-4 against a top opponent. Daniil Medvedev stood in his way in the last eight. Ruud only broke twice but won the match 6-3 and 7-5 in straight sets. The Norwegian faced Francisco Cerundolo in the semi-final. This was another straight-set win to book a berth in the final.
Draper’s path to the last two
Jack Draper had a pretty easy path to the finals. This has helped him to go past Novak Djokovic in the ATP rankings. Draper defeated the likes of Matteo Berrettini, Tommy Paul, and Lorenzo Musetti to reach the final. He is yet to drop a set just like his opponent. Both these opponents will face each other for the first time. Ruud is more experienced, but Draper has the fire to get past his opponent. This will be an interesting time.
The Madrid Open: Will Sabalenka win her third title?
Aryna Sabalenka has a chance to build some momentum ahead of the French Open. The no. 1 seed will be eyeing her third title in Madrid after failing to do so last year. Sabalenka has reached her fourth final, and her only loss came last year against Iga Swiatek. Coco Gauff will stand in Sabalenka’s way.

Gauff is coming after a dominant win against Swiatek in the semis. The American youngster defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final. It was a complete domination by Gauff, who broke five times in the match. This is her first final in Madrid. Sabalenka was tested by Ukrainian tennis star, Elina Svitolina in the semis. She won the match 6-3, 7-5 against the former world No. 3.
Aryna Sabalenka is the favourite to win her third championship. However, it won’t be easy against an opponent who has a slightly better head-to-head record against her. Gauff leads Sabalenka 5-4 in their head-to-head meetings. The American won the previous match in the 2024 WTA Finals. However, Sabalenka has a better record when it comes to winning titles. She has 19 under her belt, while Gauff is on 10 titles. This will be an end-to-end final between these two competitors.
