This match witnessed three tie breakers, but Arthur came out on top in a match that lasted four hours and 44 minutes. Stefanos Tsitsipas’ Wimbledon 2025 campaign also came to an end after the player retired after losing the first two sets.
Four out of the top five seeds in the women’s division were knocked out in the first round
French Open champion Coco Gauff was the biggest upset in round 1 of the women’s championship. She lost in straight sets against Dayana Yastremska. Gauff has failed to deliver on grass and has never made it past the fourth round. Jessica Pegula and Zheng Qinwen also lost their respective first-round ties to open the door for other players.
