Alcaraz And Raducanu: To Set for New Records at Wimbledon

Wimbledon 2024 is one of the exciting tournaments that has reached the third round in both men’s and women’s competitions. Top players from across the globe are playing on the grass court in London.

Some big players were in action on a rainy day. Most matches were not concluded due to bad weather, while a few matches were completed. Let’s take a look at how some of the big names performed in their 3rd round matches.

Carlos Alcaraz escapes Tiafoe’s challenge

Carlos Alcaraz is one of the favorite contenders to lift the Wimbledon crown this time. He won the French Open this year and is carrying the winning momentum. The Spanish player faced hard-hitting Frances Tiafoe in the third round.

The United States player won the first set 7-5. Alcaraz made a comeback and won the second set 6-2. However, Tiafoe took the third set 6-4 and Alcaraz was in a lot of trouble. The young Spaniard showed his class in the last two sets. He won the fourth set 7-6 and the fifth set 6-2 to reach the next round.

World No. 1 makes it to 4th Round

Jannik Sinner has also booked his place in the next round after a straight-set win over Miomir Kecmanovic. Sinner dominated the match from the start. He won the match 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.

Home favourite Emma Raducanu advances

Emma Raducanu might have missed a lot of playing time in recent past but her game shows why she is considered one of the best. The former US Open champion reached the fourth round following a 6-2, 6-3 win over World No. 9 Maria Sakkari. This is Raducanu’s third Grand Slam in two years. She is aiming to make a huge comeback.

Coco Gauff & Madison Keys march on

Two of the other contenders for the women’s title have moved to the fourth round. USA’s duo of Keys and Gauff reached the fourth round of the singles competition. Gauff defeated Sonay Kartal of Great Britain to book her place. She won 6-4, 6-0. Keys, on the other hand, won 6-4, 6-3 against Marta Yastremska of Ukraine.

The likes of Grigor Dimitrov and Tommy Paul also won their respective matches. Dimitrov was up against Gael Monfils of France. Monfils is a veteran of the game and lost to the 10th seed in straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-3).

All matches in the women’s division were completed but rain forced to postponement of some of the matches in the men’s category. Daniil Medvedev will return to action again Jan-Lennard Struff. Medvedev won the first two sets but ended up losing the third one. He will play the fourth set from 1-1. Lulu Sun of New Zealand also made history by becoming the first woman to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek will return to the court for their matches. These might get delayed due to the non-conclusion of other matches. The tournament is offering some exciting tennis.
