Manchester United’s Goal Struggles: Manager Erik ten Hag Urges Team to “Step Up”

United’s Goal Drought Continues
Manchester United’s struggles in front of goal were laid bare once again in their goalless draw against Aston Villa, extending their winless run to five matches. Erik ten Hag’s side has now failed to score in each of their last three outings, including another 0-0 against Crystal Palace and a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. With only five goals in their first seven games, United’s attack is under serious scrutiny.

Erik ten Hag admits “We Need to Step Up”
After another frustrating match, under-pressure manager Erik ten Hag admitted that his team must improve in the attacking department. “We know we’re not scoring enough right now,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s a difficult start, and it’s an area we need to step up in.” With the lowest goal tally in Premier League history for the club, Ten Hag’s focus is clear: find the back of the net.

Defensive Silver Lining
While United’s sheer lack of goals is concerning, Eric Ten Hag found a positive in United’s more solid defensive performance. After a rather chaotic 3-3 draw against Porto in the Europa League, the Dutchman’s decision to bring Jonny Evans back into his side paid off, with the veteran earning man-of-the-match honors. “There was good organization, character, and spirit,” Ten Hag said of the performance.

Tough Times and Big Decisions to come
As United languishes in 14th place heading into the international break the speculation surrounding Ten Hag’s future is intensifying, especially with co-owner Jim Ratcliffe watching from the stands. Despite this pressure, the Dutchman claims he remains focused on the bigger picture, explaining “This is a long-term process. We’ve had tough games, but the belief and faith in this team are still strong.”

What’s Next for United?
Ten Hag who has extended his contract until 2026 after an FA Cup victory is now faced with the challenge of reigniting Manchester United’s season. With key players underperforming and an attack misfiring, the road ahead is tough, but the Dutch manager remains committed to steering the Red Devils back on course.
