Spain Lifts Its First FIFA Women’s World Cup
Spain wins the 2023 Women’s World Cup with 1-0 win over England
The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup came to a close this Sunday with a thrilling matchup at Sydney’s Stadium Australia, where Spain defeated England 1-0 to win its first ever Women’s World Cup title.
Captain Olga Carmona smashed the decisive goal as Spain defeated England 1-0 to lift the FIFA Women’s World Cup title on Sunday in Sydney. Carmona fired her side ahead in the 29th minute and they were only denied a second when England goalkeeper Mary Earps saved a second-half penalty from Jennifer Hermoso. England were dominant in their approach but Spain’s brilliant effort did not let them equalize as inch closer towards the victory. This was Spain’s maiden World Cup title as England’s wait for a World Cup triumph continues.

Spain survived nearly 15 minutes of stoppage time to secure the victory with some proper gamesmanship tactics- successfully milking every free kick and every stoppage to close the game out.
It could have been an even more comfortable win for Spain as England goalkeeper Mary Earps came up huge with several acrobatic saves throughout the match.
Spain’s win marked the first time a new World Cup champion was crowned since 2011. Incidentally, Spain joins Germany as one of two nations in soccer history to win both a men’s and women’s World Cup.
History is made in Sydney!
