The US Open: Tiafoe And Fritz Set to Bring American Magic

The US Open 2024 is reaching the final stages in both men’s and women’s competition. All the biggest names in tennis participated in the last Grand Slam of the year. Only a few remain in the competition. The quarter-final stage is ongoing in both draws. Some players have already booked their semi-final berth, while others are gearing up for a spot in the last four.

Two home grown players have made it to the semi-finals in the men’s division. Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe booked an all-American semi-final, despite being ranked lower than their opponents in the quarter-final clash.

Taylor Fritz upsets Alexander Zverev

America’s top seed ended Zverev’s hopes of his maiden Grand Slam in the last eight. Taylor Fritz took four sets to beat his German opponent. This win means that the 26-year-old American will play for the first time in a Grand Slam final.

The US Open

The first set was exciting as it ended 6-6 and went into a tie breaker. Taylor Fritz dominated and won 7-2. He took the first set 7-6. The No. 4 seed made a comeback in the second set. Alexander Zverev won 6-3 and tied the match on 1-1. Fritz had the home support. He made full use of it and won the third set 6-4. Zverev knew that he had to give his best to reman in the match.

 The fourth set also went into a tie breaker. Taylor Fritz once again capitalized on the opportunity. He took the tie break 7-3 and sealed his place in the semi-final. Fritz reached the quarter-finals on the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season. This is his best year in Grand Slams.

Alexander Zverev has reached two Grand Slam finals, including the US Open 2020. The French Open 2024 finalist will be disappointed with this result.

The US Open semi-final: Second time for Frances Tiafoe

Frances Tiafoe also booked his place in the last four by beating Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian was forced to retire in the fourth set. Tiafoe took the first set 6-3 but lost the second one in a tie breaker. The American won the third set 6-3. He led the fourth set 4-1 but Dimitrov was forced to retire from the match.

Tiafoe is enjoying a good run in the US Open. He reached the second semi-final of the US Open. The 26-year-old played in the 2022 semis and reached the quarter-final of the US Open 2023. He will face his American companion in the semis.

Who will join the Americans?

Jack Draper and Alex de Minaur will take on each other in the third quarter-final. This will be followed by an exciting match between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev. Both players have won one Grand Slam each. Medvedev won the US Open in 2021 and Sinner won the Australian Open this year. Both players have the potential to win at the big stage. The winner of this match will be the favourite to lift the US Open crown this year.
