Aryna Sabalenka and Lehecka won Brisbane International 2025
Aryna Sabalenka has made a great start to the 2025 campaign as she won her first Brisbane International. Jiri Lehecka secured the men’s title after his opponent was forced to retire following an injury. This was his maiden Brisbane International title and second ATP Tour title.
Jiri Lehecka was up against Reilly Opelka, who shockingly defeated Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final. Opelka made it to his first tour final since 2022. He was on a dream run. However, Opelka was unable to continue following a back injury. Lehecka, who was already leading 4-1 in the first set, was declared the winner of the Brisbane International.
This was Lehecka’s second silverware win in as many years. Last year, he won in Adelaide. At the age of 23, Jiri became the second youngest player to lift this trophy. He also became the second Czech champion after Radek Stepanek to win in Brisbane.

Opelka struggled with injuries in the last two seasons due to wrist and hip injuries. This was his seventh ATP tour final and first outside the United States. Reilly was forced to retire and missed out on his fifth title.
Lehecka’s dream run in Brisbane International
Reilly Opelka earned a big win against Novak Djokovic to reach the final. But his opponent in the final was on a dream run himself. In the round of 32, Lehecka defeated the no. 3 seeded, Holgar Rune in straight sets. This was followed by a win against his Japanese opponent, Yoshihito Nishioka. Nicolas Jarry’s run came to an end in the quarter-final at the hands of Lehecka.
The 23-year-old Czech faced the second-seeded and defending champion, Grigor Dimitrov, in the semis. Lehecka won the first set 6-4 and was nearing his fourth tour-final. The second set was tied at 4-4 before Dimitrov was forced to retire. Jiri had one hand on the trophy and he lifted his second singles title.
Aryna Sabalenka wins 18th title
Aryna Sabalenka came from a set down to win the Brisbane International. She defeated Polina Kudermetova in three sets. Kudermetova won the first set 6-4 but lost the next two 6-3 and 6-2. Aryna lost the Brisbane International last year and now has her hands on the trophy.

Sabalenka has won her fourth final in a row, including the US Open last year. She is currently the best player and will be on the hunt for more Grand Slams this season. Sabalenka won the Australian Open and US Open in 2024. She has gained a lot of success on hard court.
Against Kudermetova, the Bulgarian was disciplined with her serve. Her opponent struggled and gave away seven double faults. Sabalenka also broke six times in a dominant win.
This win means that Sabalenka has an 18-14 record in the tour-final. She is 16-6 on hard surfaces, making her the favorite for the upcoming Australian Open. The tournament will begin on 15th January. Sabalenka will be eyeing her third Australian Open.
